Asset Gives Back

Asset Plus and Charity Water

As of October 2011, Asset Plus Companies has partnered with the non-profit, Charity Water, a nationally recognized organization whose mission is to provide clean drinking water to all those in developing nations. Every dollar that is donated to Charity Water is tracked with a GPS so that all donors will virtually see where their money is being used, whether it is on a drilling rig in Africa or on a drinking well in Honduras. Clean water improves the quality of life for individuals by increasing time spent in classrooms, improving hygiene and assisting in economic growth.

All of our team members were introduced to Charity Water at our annual 2011 Manager's Conference in San Antonio, Texas. Mr. McGrath presented the compelling statistic that nearly one billion people die every year due to unclean drinking water and requested that all of our corporate team, onsite team and residents work together to help other in recieving clean drinking water.

To put it into perspective, here is some information directly from the Charity Water website: "In Africa alone, the overall economic loss due to lack of safe water and sanitation is $28 billion, or about 5% of GDP. In areas where gathering water is impossible, small-scale private water distributors charge full market prices, forcing the poorest households to spend up to 11% of their income on life's most basic need. Even this water is most likely contaminated if it has been collected from unprotected rivers or ponds."

In the first three months of rolling out this initiative, we have raised over $15,000 thanks to team members, residents, clients and vendors. With our efforts, we hope to assist Charity Water in improving the quality of life for many other individuals.

Asset Plus and Autism Speaks

We are proud to support the nationally recognized organization, Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks is a philanthropic organization with an overall mission to "increase funding for medical research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and cure for autism; to raise public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, and society; and to bringing hope to all who deal with the hardships of this disorder."

Autism Speaks became a focal point for our management team when we recognized that a substantial number of employees are directly affected by having a family member with this disorder. We successfully raised over $10,000 for Autism Speaks and look forward to using this money to be a sponsor for the 2011 Walk Now for Autism Speaks event.

Asset Plus and the Fred and Mabel Parks Youth Ranch

For the past year, Houston based Asset Plus team members have volunteered their time and services to the Fred and Mabel Parks Youth Ranch (FMBYR), a non profit 501(C) (3) organization serving as a temporary home for abused and neglected children ages 12 to 17 in Fort Bend County. The Youth Ranch also provides an onsite crisis intervention center with counselling services available to those waiting to be reunited with their families, placed in foster care or adopted.

President of Asset Plus Companies, Michael S. McGrath, serves as a member of the FMPYR Board of Directors and made the executive decision to donate Asset Plus’ construction management services to the development of the Youth Ranch. Team members throughout all divisions of Asset Plus Companies have had the opportunity to volunteer their time at the Youth Ranch whether it be painting, raking leaves or paving bricks. The grand opening of the Youth Ranch was November 14, 2010 and we are pleased to have had the opportunity to help serve the Fort Bend community.

Asset and Remember Alex Brown Foundation

Asset Plus Companies is proud to support the Remember Alex Brown Foundation and their efforts to end texting while driving. Alex Brown was an extraordinary teenage girl who lost her life in a car accident due to texting and driving. Alex’s parents began the Remember Alex Brown Foundation in order to share Alex’s story and emphasize the dangers of texting while driving to all students and adults across the nation.

The Brown family and their story was featured on Oprah Winfrey’s National No Phone Zone Day episode in April of 2010 and the Brown’s were also featured as the recipients of a new home on ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition this past January. After President of Asset Plus Companies, Michael S. McGrath, and several other Asset Plus team members saw the Brown family’s emotional story, we joined efforts with the foundation and have begun encouraging all of our staff and residents to sign the Remember Alex Brown Pledge to not text and drive.

Take the Pledge
